A list of Recommended Blogs ...
Hairromance.com is a classic beauty blog demonstrating black and white photography in order to give it a sense of 50’s glamour. Once opened it loads very quickly and demonstrates the most important information above the fold of the page making accessibility easy. The slideshow of blog posts makes you want to read more of the blog as it displays the best articles, the blog also has a clear target audience (young females aged from approximately 15-45) based on its choice of images. The use of a constant black and white theme and lack of blinking animations ensures the blog flows in an easy-to-follow fashion.
This blog is set out in a slightly more informal layout. The bold colours used and name suggests it is for a younger audience, the content used is interesting for those who visit for makeup advise however, it lacks any information regarding hair or fashion. The pink colouring of the logo is a definite attraction to females however its size is too large for the website and is therefore slightly cut off. The home page of this blog is easily assessable thanks to the use of navigation buttons in the logo and at the bottom of the page, although links to do not change colour when visited making it slightly hard to remember what page you are on.
This blog takes a slightly more philosophical view of the beauty industry by looking at the ethical issues with hair extensions; which is what I am going to examine in my blog. It contains very interesting information and loads very quickly, however until you scroll down the page you are not completely aware of the blogs purpose. The pastel colours used show the seriousness of the blog, and also the one photograph used demonstrates the ethical issues. However, there is not a consistent flow of audio or imagery. As a final point, the controversial topic helps to engage readers and create emotional responses.
This blog oozes sophistication by its colour scheme of creams and gold’s and its layout and upmarket approach to blogging is what I would like to incorporate into my own blog. Although it does not place much focus on hair or beauty there is a large emphasis on fashion, which demonstrates its female target audience. The information is presented very logically and hyperlinks are used effectively, also the design of the blog (fonts, colour theme and imagery) is constant throughout every page giving the blog a sense of fluidity. Finally, there are very little advertisements on this blog and no flashing animations making it a pleasant read.
This final blog/website incorporates fashion, beauty and hair into its articles. The most important information is most defiantly placed above the fold enabling information to be obtained quickly, and visited pages are highlighted accordingly. Again the subdued colour theme of this blog demonstrates its upmarket information and slightly more mature audience. The advertisements in this blog are of the same topic and colour theme as its images and therefore do not distract readers, also every photo is captioned making it more interesting to read. Finally, the bottom of the page maintains the professional layout of the blog and contains a useful home link.
